About PuffinERG
Cardio is easier when someone is watching
PuffinERG turns the workouts in your Concept2 Logbook into goals you set yourself, and into shared goals that you and your friends, your crew or your club chase together.
How to start
Record with ErgData
Concept2's free ErgData app connects your phone to the PM5 monitor by Bluetooth and uploads each workout to your Concept2 Logbook when you finish, stroke by stroke.
Connect Concept2
Sign in, click "Connect Concept2" and allow access. Your whole history comes in on the first sync. It connects the account signed in at log.concept2.com, so on a shared computer check it is yours.
Keep training
New workouts arrive whenever you open PuffinERG, or straight away with "Sync now".
Set a goal
Total distance, total time, or a target time over a distance, between dates you pick. PuffinERG shows what you need per day to make it.
Bring your people
Create a group, share its invite link, and set group goals. Friends who should see more get your friend link.
No ErgData?
Workouts typed in by hand at log.concept2.com count towards goals and records too. They just have no stroke-by-stroke data.
Hold each other accountable
Most people know they should do more cardio. Few do it on their own. PuffinERG started as a spreadsheet a group of friends used to row a million metres each in a year: nobody wanted to be the one at the bottom of the list.
- Groups for friends, boats, boxes and clubs, joined by invite link. Clubs approve who joins.
- A leaderboard per goal: who is ahead, who is behind, and what each person needs per day.
- Nothing to log. Workouts come from the Concept2 Logbook, so the numbers are honest.
- Take part in the goals that suit you and step out of the others.
Goals you choose
Total distance
Metres between two dates.
1,000,000 m in 2026Total time
Minutes between two dates, on one erg or all of them.
10,000 minutes of cardioA time over a distance
From where you are to where you want to be.
2k from 7:10 to 6:59Only work counts. Metres and minutes during interval rest are shown separately and never added to a goal.
Fair across RowErg, SkiErg and BikeErg
Metres on different machines are not the same thing, and Concept2 itself does not add them up one to one. So when a distance goal is set to any erg, PuffinERG counts them the way Concept2 does in its own challenges (Concept2's rule).
| Machine | Distance goal, any erg | Time goal |
|---|---|---|
| RowErg | metres count in full | minute for minute |
| SkiErg | metres count in full | minute for minute |
| BikeErg | metres count half | minute for minute |
| Other machine types | not counted | minute for minute |
A goal set to one machine counts that machine's metres one to one. Charts for goals across machines are coloured by machine, so you see how much came from rowing, skiing and biking.
What others see
You decide. Group members see progress, nothing more. Friends and coaches see more only when you allow it, and heart rate always needs its own yes.

Built by the team behind PuffinVBT
PuffinVBT measures bar speed and estimated 1RM from a phone video of your lifts. Plenty of people who erg also lift, and the reverse.
